Upside Down Kingdom - The Royal Arrival in Bethlehem
Though we just finished the Christmas season, this week we are back into the Christmas story of the birth of Jesus, as our new “Upside Down Kingdom” series naturally continues on in Luke 2:1-20. This time, Pastor Tyler focuses on dissecting the two different kingdoms that we see in the midst of our earthly existence: one built on wealth, violence, and force, while the other is built on humility, peace, and coming quietly. I think it is a fair assumption that most of us would expect some sort of savior of the world to come in the form of royalty; with palaces, prestige, power, etc. But instead, we see Jesus born from a town that wasn’t considered wealthy, through a family that wasn’t royalty, and the first out-of-town witnesses given the great news of this coming Savior were shepherds. From the beginning, Jesus was accessible, as He is today. You don’t have to clean yourself up to come to Him. You don’t have to be the most powerful or wealthy in the world to get access. And you certainly don’t need permission from anyone to knock on His door (or open your own doors to let Him in). Phos Church Sunday Sermon 1-18-2026

Upside Down Kingdom - God Speaks in the Ordinary
Onto week 2 of our “Upside Down Kingdom” series, and this week we’re continuing in Luke 1:4-24 with the prophecy revealed of John the Baptist’s upcoming birth to Zechariah and Elizabeth. Curiously in this text, we see Zechariah question and doubt the prophecy, and was made mute until his wife gave birth. Though on the surface this can almost look like a punishment, a deeper look reveals a deeper truth that this was more of an invitation to meet the Lord with more trust, reverence, and intimacy. So often in our society we are bombarded by noise. Whether it’s the news, pings of endless notifications, or even just our general environments at times, the world that most of us live in is not a very quiet place. Where can we slow down and take intentional time with God today? To quiet the noise, let the minds decompress, and perhaps hear God a little more easily, even within the ordinary of our days? Though God can show up anywhere, including large stadium gatherings and concert environments, Scripture shows us that He will move in even the most remote places. Phos Church Sunday Sermon 1-11-2026

Upside Down Kingdom - The Story Built on Asphalt
Happy New Year from all of us at Phos Church! For the year of 2026, we'll be diving through the depths of the Gospel of Luke. For 14 weeks, part 1 of this year will focus on the "Upside Down Kingdom," where Luke shows Jesus turning the world upside down by redefining power, holiness, salvation, and what it means to be truly human. In other words, giving us wisdom, evidence, and proclamation about how things should actually be. To start things off, Pastor Tyler opens the Word to Luke 1:1-4, where Luke addresses Theophilus, establishing the foundation of Truth that he is about to share as the author of the rest of the book, with hopes to convince Theophilus (as well as us) that what was revealed by Jesus during His time on earth was indeed true. We hope you enjoy and join us all year long as we journey into the depths of the Gospel of Luke. Phos Church Sunday Sermon 1-4-2026

Strangers & Exiles - Living Faithfully Through the Fog
We have reached the summit for our “Strangers and Exiles” seven sermon series to close out the year of 2025. To finish things up, Pastor Tyler preaches from Hebrews 11:39-12:3, focusing on keeping our eyes fixed on our Creator amidst all of life’s challenges, distractions, or longings. I think for many of us, it can sometimes feel like running this endurance race in the faith is not always clear. We may be running, holding steadfast, but does it ever feel foggy? When we lose our vision and can’t see the shoreline or the finish line, it can be hard to keep going. And sure, for each of our personal circumstances, there may be times when we don’t fully understand what is happening. But keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus is the answer to getting through the fog; giving us a vision and a hope to continue enduring, no matter what is happening. He’s the one that fulfills our desires, makes us whole, and is the foundation that we can cling to until your race is complete. Phos Church Sunday Sermon 12-28-2025

Christmas Eve 2025 - Phos Church
Merry Christmas! As we do every year, we dedicate this service to celebrating the birth of our King Jesus Christ; our redeemer, savior, and light of the world. Pastor Tyler delivers a grounded and encouraging word this Christmas to remind us of the true reason of the season. Though there is nothing wrong with enjoying good food, time with friends and family, or giving of gifts, we must be mindful that we don’t get so lost in the celebrations of the season that it replaces Jesus as our soul source of nourishment…the One that can fill the God-sized hole in our hearts. Yes, DO enjoy all of those things, but let our gratitude go to the One who gives us everything we need. So whether this Christmas you are going through times that don’t feel as merry, or if you’re having one of the more blessed years of your life, we pray that the Lord may bring His peace, comfort, and joy into your lives and hearts this Christmas season. God bless you all, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year as well! Phos Church Christmas Eve Sermon 12-24-2025

Strangers & Exiles - Faith That Escapes and Endures the Sword
We're in the penultimate week for our "Strangers and Exiles" sermon series, and today Pastor Tyler preaches from Hebrews 11:32-38. Quite frankly, this is a tough word to ingest as we're given a stark contrast of what following in faith could look like. Some are spared great persecution, while others are martyred in some of the worst ways you could probably imagine; yet, whether in tribulation or blessing, Jesus is the ultimate fulfiller of our soul and savior. "Faith is living obediently as if the results of the scoreboard don't matter." -Pastor Tyler No matter what we face in this time on earth, we're called to do our best to follow Jesus in faith and trust and leave the overall outcomes to Him. Strangers & Exiles - Faith for What's Better
We’re now into sermon 5 of our Strangers & Exiles series, with a focus this week on the faith of Moses, described in Hebrews 11:23-28. We see Moses foreshadowing a way of living in which Jesus Christ eventually modeled as well: leaving the life of one kingdom to humbly serve in another not-so-glamorous society. In verse 25 (ESV), it says “[Moses] chose to suffer oppression with God’s people rather than to experience the fleeting enjoyment of sin.” The culture and societies a lot of us live in today are so often attempting to draw our attention to devote ourselves to other things. As examples, finding quick answers to deep questions and art can be generated in seconds through the use of A.I., while the love of money can grab hold of our heart, putting you on a path to fill empty holes with the devotion to things. And though it is not to say that money is bad or that tools like A.I. are necessarily evil, or that owning things is wrong, we must always be vigilant as to where our devotion is and where we find our answers as well. The truth of the Word of God is undefeated; transcending time, space, and cultures. And though it is possible to “live a good life” as many of us might hope in several non-sinful ways down here, let us keep our eyes on the promises of heaven and God’s promises of what is to come in eternity, no matter what circumstances we may be enduring in the here and now. Strangers & Exiles - Faith for When You Aren't in Kansas Anymore
Though we were knit in the wombs of our mothers by God the Father (Psalm 139:13) and because of how sin has tainted this world, the more we grow, I think the more we realize that there is an ache in our soul of “something missing.” Something is off, and we know it. Though we can be pulled in many directions in our world, ultimately, nothing seems to satisfy fully. That’s where Jesus comes into play. He is our “bread of life” (John 6:35). Pastor Tyler continues on in Hebrews 11:13-16 this week, focusing on how to maintain faith even as “foreigners” of this world. How do we find the balance between living out our lives down here, while also knowing as believers that earth as we currently know it is not our final destination? How do we hold onto promises from God to us, yet also knowing that it is very possible that a lot of those promises may not come to fruition on this side of eternity? We’re over halfway through the final series of the year! Enjoy! Phos Church Sunday Sermon 12-7-2025

Strangers & Exiles - Faith While Waiting in Hope
To say that society has sped up in almost every way possible in comparison to how things were even just 20 years ago, let alone any longer than that, would probably be a bit of an understatement. From how swiftly we receive the news or a scoreboard update, to quick-charging phones and half-a-day package deliveries, it’s actually a bit mind-boggling if you really take a second to sit with those realities…and yet, it is so culturally normal at this point. However, instant gratification has programmed us to expect everything absolutely right now…and often it can really put our minds and expectations at odds with God’s timing for things in our lives when it comes to His promises. In week 3 of our “Strangers & Exiles” sermon series, Pastor Tyler dissects Hebrews 11:11-12, referencing the promise of a child that would eventually be born from Sarah (Abraham’s wife from the book of Genesis), and how she was able to find faith for this promise, even in old age (Genesis 18:12-15). This faith she held didn’t come without doubts though. She initially laughed at the fact that she could conceive at her age, yet she still held onto imperfect belief within the 25 year process of God fulfilling that promise. Pastor Tyler also shares a deep personal story and struggle that he and his wife Karen have been navigating for awhile, in hopes that it may encourage you in the waiting seasons of your own life.
